Nora(โนรา, โนห์รา) the dance drama in Southern Thailand | THAILAND 🇹🇭

Nora is a form of traditional, folk performing arts that is popular in the southern region of Thailand and the northern states of Malaysia.

 

Manora is a type of dance drama originating in Southern Thailand. The main elements and characteristics of Nora are the costume and the music. Nora costume comprises a sort(เทริด) for the principal performer  “the Nora Yai”. The Nora Yai or Nora yuen, while the khrueng nang or the costume for the female characters does not have armlets, pendants, or wings.

 

The basic features of the performance include a lengthy invocation, a dance by the main character, and a play or skit. The invocation is enacted by slow rhythmic movements of legs, arms, and fingers. The dramatic repertoire of Menora's performance is based on Thai legends of Manohara, derived from the Buddhist Jataka tales, many of which already accultured into Malay society centuries ago.
