✦ Loi Krathong is a very famous tradition that originated in Sukhothai, which is the first capital of Thailand. Traditionally the people of Thailand over the country attend the event held in many provinces.

✦ Most Thai people join the Loi Krathong near home sometimes we go to join a big one. There are many beautiful Loi Krathong organizers such as Chiang Mai, Tak, Sukhothai, Ayutthaya, And Bangkok.

✦ Loy Krathong Day is one of the most popular festivals of Thailand celebrated annually on the Full-Moon Day of the Twelfth Lunar Month.

✦ The word ลอย /loi - loy/ means ‘to float’ and Krathong กระทง /grà-tong/ is a small lotus-shaped floating receptacle. It could be made from anything; traditionally it is made of banana leaves and banana trunks.

✦ It takes place at a time when the weather is fine as the rainy season is over and there is a high water level all over the country. The ceremony is believed to have originated in the time of King Ramkhamhaeng of Sukhothai, the first capital of Thailand.

✦ Loy Krathong takes place on the evening of the full moon of the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar. In the western calendar, this usually falls in November each year celebrated throughout the kingdom as well as nearby countries or states with Tai culture such as Laos 🇱🇦, Shan/Mon/Tanintharyi 🇲🇲, Kelantan/Kedah 🇲🇾 and Xishuangbanna 🇨🇳 with different names.

ประเพณีนี้กำหนดขึ้นเพื่อเป็นการสะเดาะเคราะห์และขอขมาต่อพระแม่คงคาซึ่งเป็นเทวดาในคติฮินดู แต่เทศกาลนี้มีร่องรอยหลักฐานย้อนไปถึงจีนและอินเดียโบราณ
