✦ Krai Thong (ไกรทอง) is a Thai folktale, originating from Phichit Province. It tells the story of Chalawan, a crocodile lord who abducts a daughter of a wealthy Phichit man, and Kraithong, a merchant from Nonthaburi who seeks to kill Chalawan. The story was adapted into a play (lakhon nok), credited to King Rama II and has seen various modern adaptations.

✦ “Rakorn Nork Wang - ละครนอกวัง” or lakhon nok “ Rakorn Nork - ละครนอก” is a dramatic art of Thailand that performs with a general story and originated outside the royal residence in the early Ayudhya period.
Formerly, it wasn't called Rakorn Nork until Rakorn Nai(ละครใน) was generated in the royal residence, consequently, the dramatic arts that operated without tradition and regulation were called Rakorn Nork.
At first, Rakorn Nork was performed by a man only, and then in the King Rama IV period, allowed a woman to participate in the show. For the stories which are selected for performance, we can play every story with the exception of 3 stories including “Oonnarout”, “Enau” and “Ramayana”.
✦ The procedures of performing Rakorn Nork are speedy, fancy, entertaining, and sometimes maybe impolite. The actor who plays the part of the King is probably jocular with other players who act as an army or a court official.
Dancing, making the script, and performing must be active as the characteristic of folk, therefore a dialogue of Rakorn Nork is a simple word as the folk’s conversation, and no need to conserve the culture excessively.
✦ In the show, prefer to use the Pii-Pathaya for accompaniment. In the past, Rakorn Nork is a dramatic work that people prefer to play in ordinary style, outside the royal residence, in consequence, the display of Rakorn Nork happens more frequently than Rakorn Nai.
In addition, Rakorn Nork is a career for earning one’s living that prefers to show in general ceremonies including an auspicious and inauspicious ceremony.
