The 1866-1876 AD were the best times for France to explore one of the most fascinating civilization in the world which is Angkorian civilization. With the help of Khmer people to move Angkor antiques to France, French could organize "the 1931 Exposition Colonial de Paris" where the French replica of Angkor Wat exhibited with the real antiques.
The leader of the team that successfully moved lots of the antiques out of Cambodia was "Louis Delaporte". He was tasked with leading a team of explorers from Saigon to Tonkin with his 50 porters to Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom. He drew up complete blueprints of those ruins. The key goal was to gather all infomations from there including taking the antiques back to Paris for study. He was able to bring more than 70 beautiful antiques, mostly large and medium sculptures, back to Paris.
Most of Angkor antiques that exhibited at Universal Exposition can be found at Guimet Museum, Paris, France.

In the year 1878 AD, Louis Delaporte carried a giant bridge to pull the Naga at the entrance to Prasat Phra Khan with fragments of plaster cast from the top face and lintels from many castles exhibited at an exhibition in Paris. For the first time, the French were exposed to the remnants of the ancient Angkor civilization that flourished.
.
In the year 1889 AD, a small model castle was built to serve as a pavilion for exhibiting antiquities at the Exposition Universelle in Paris
.
In the year 1906 AD, an exhibition pavilion was built. Using inspiration from Bayon Castle in the National Colonial Exposition in Marseille, King Norodom Srisawat from Cambodia also attended the opening day of this exhibition.
.
In 1922 AD, the first full-size replica of Angkor Wat was built at the Exposition Coloniale in Marseille.
.
In 1931 AD, another replica of Angkor Wat was made at the Exposition Coloniale. Held at the Parc de Vincennes, on the outskirts of Paris, this replica of Angkor Wat was an improved version of the Angkor Wat built at the exposition. Little Exposition Coloniale at Marseille include the top (If the photo does not specify the year or the information can separate Angkor Wat at Marseille with Paris from the top) and the internal division of the exhibition space.
