Narai Song Suban Thai Royal Barge 🇹🇭

This is the royal barge built during the reign of King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX) launched in 1996 for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of King Bhumibol's accession to the throne.

 

Narai Song Suban means Phra Narai (Vishnu) mounting on Garuda. Narai has dark skin with a discus, a conch, a scepter, and a trident on his four hands. The Garuda carrying Vishnu holds two Nagas up high.

 

According to India’s Purana literature, Garuda and Naga are enemies but both serve Vishnu. Garuda represents the power of the sky and Naga represents the power of water. Vishnu is above both Naga and Garuda mean that he has the power to protect the world.

 

The bow and the body of the royal barge is engraved, lacquered, adorned with gold leaves, and decorated with glass pieces.
