🪷 Loy Krathong, also named Festival of Lights, is a famous floating lantern festival in Thailand.
"Loy Krathong Festival" is one of the joyful holidays of the Thai people.
It has existed since the Sukhothai period. As evidenced in the book of Thao Sri Chulalak and continued to do so in the Ayutthaya period until the present Originally, it was a royal ceremony called “The Royal Ceremony of Chong Priang(พระราชพิธีจองเปรียง), lowering the clothes, floating lanterns, delivering water”, later called “ลอยพระประทีป: Loy Phra Phra Thep” and when it became a royal ceremony, it was called “Loy Krathong”.
✦ Loy Krathong tradition was originally performed on the full moon day of the 11th lunar month and the full moon day of the 12th lunar month. Currently, the Loi Krathong tradition is held only on the full moon day of the 12th lunar month.
In Buddhism, it is believed that Loy Krathong is to pay homage to the Buddha's footprint on the sandy beach on the banks of the Nammathanati River. (now called Neraphudha River) is in India.
Some believe that to worship the Buddha's relics contained in Phra Chulamanee, the chedi in heaven, and some believe to thank "พระแม่คงคา: Phra Mae Ganga" that we have lived and eaten.
