Queen Phupinthar Lakshmi Devi was the mother of Narentrathit (นเรนทราทิตย์) who was the ruler and the builder of Prasat Hin Phanom Rung in the area of nowadays Buriram province, Thailand.

Phanom Rung Festival, also known as the Traditional Ascent of Phanom Rung Hill (ประเพณีขึ้นเขาพนมรุ้ง), is held annually around April to pay homage to Lord Shiva and to celebrate the rare solar phenomenon where the sun’s rays pass perfectly through all 15 doorways of the ancient temple. This occurs only four times a year—twice at sunrise (in April and September) and twice at sunset (in March and October).

The festival features cultural performances such as traditional music and dance, along with a vibrant parade that highlights the region’s heritage. Visitors can also enjoy local cuisine and browse markets offering traditional crafts.
