Kula ethnic ♦ กุลา ♦ | THAILAND 🇹🇭

✦ Kula (Thai: กุลา; also spelled Gula and Kola) are Tai peoples who immigrated from Yunnan, China and the Mon and Shan States in Myanmar to Isan, Thailand during the last few decades of the 19th century.

 

✦ Kula, when traveling to trade in Isan (Northeastern) Thailand, Kula Bangchak married the Thai Isan people and the Phu Thai people in Nong Sung. and settled at Thung Mak Tao (ทุ่งหมากเฒ่า) in the city of Nong Sung Until there are children descended from the Kula people until today.

 

✦ The history of Toongsoo (တောင်သူ Taungthu in Burmese), another name for the Kula people, is unknown. Although Thai documents from the 1870s and '80s use the two words interchangeably, it is not clear if they refer to the same ethnic group.

 

✦ The Kula language is an amalgamation of words from Shan and Dai, both of which were native Shan peoples. Kula has adapted to include words from other peoples in Northern Thailand and Lan Na like the Northern Thai language, especially those languages spoken in the border communities between Burma and Thailand.
