✦ New Year’s Eve festival is a Lanna tradition which coincides with the month of April, during the summer, which is regarded as the hottest time of the year. It is also regarded as a free time for farmers since they will not have to cultivate or harvest rice. Therefore, New Year’s Day is one of the biggest annual merit-making days. It is an enjoyable day, where we can enjoy playing with the cool Songkran water, splashing it at each other.

✦ The Lanna New year is different from the Central Thai Songkran in many ways, be it the time, activities, beliefs or purposes. Lanna Pi Mai Muang comprises a 7-day period: wan sangkhanlong, wan nao, wan phayawan, wan pakpi, wan Pakduean and wan pakyam.

✦ The Songkran Festival in north starts on April 13 when most people begin a clean-up of their homes to ring in the new year.
On April 14 revellers refrain from verbal abuse, which is believed to cause bad luck otherwise.
On April 15 Buddhists file into temples to offer alms to Buddhist monks, listen to a sermon and pay their respects to their older relatives by pouring scented water on their older relatives by pouring scented water on their hands.
On April 16 Buddhists visit temples to seek monk’s blessings.
On April 17 local folks rid themselves of all bad luck to welcome the Lanna-style Songkran Festival.
And on April 18 is the day of fun and frolic.

✦ Songkran (Thai: เทศกาลสงกรานต์) is the Thai New Year's national holiday.
The word "Songkran" comes from the Sanskrit word saṃkrānti: संक्रान्ति literally "astrological passage", meaning transformation or change. It coincides with the rising of Aries on the astrological chart and with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia, in keeping with the Hindu Calendar and Buddhist calendar.

✦ The Songkran Water Festival is gunning for a place on UNESCO's list of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
After the UNESCO recognized Thai massage as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Thailand government it would submit traditional "Thai New Year festival" to the list this year (2022).

✦ ปีใหม่เมืองประเพณีโบราณของชาวล้านนา เรียกตามภาษาถิ่นพื้นเมืองว่า" ปี๋ใหม่เมือง"
ในช่วงฤดูร้อนเดือนเมษายน หรือในช่วงเดือน 7 เหนือ ในอุดมคติความเชื่อของชาวล้านนาประกอบด้วยวัน สังขารล่อง วันเนา วันพญาวัน วันปากปี นับว่าเป็นช่วงฤดูกาลคลายความร้อนด้วยการเล่นน้ำกับการแต่งกายที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์สำคัญ คือการนุ่งซิ่นต๋า และการสวมเสื้อตาข่ายระบายความร้อน เพื่อให้สะดวกสบายต่อการเคลื่อนไหว โดยจะมีอัตลักษณ์ที่แตกต่างกันออกไปในแต่ละพื้นที่ ตามบริบทและความนิยมของแต่ละพื้นถิ่น
