✦ In the North, Bai Sri is called “Bai Sri”, “Bai Saree” or “Bai Sri Nam Maew” and Phan Bai Sri is called Khan Bai Sri because northern people are called Phan Khan. There are four types of Bai Sri, including Bai Sri Luang; Bai Sri Nom Maew; Bai Sri Pak Cham; and Bai Sri Kluay.
✦ Lanna culture believes in the existence of 32 “Khwan” (vital spirits) that govern the 32 major elements of a human's well-being. The “Baisri”, made of banana leaves, is made for regaining them in case they were scared away.
✦ "Bai Sri" is a beautifully layered ornamental decoration made from banana leaves from Tani: ใบตองกล้วยตานี (a type of banana tree). The tiered ornament of flowers and banana leaves is a central piece of the Bai Sri ceremony performed to bestow peace and prosperity on a person or place.
✦ Bai Sri is made of banana leaves stitched into three levels, which contain rice, and essential elements: lotus, prosperous candle, young coconut juice, 3 candle trays, 9 ordinary candles, and a white holy string.
✦ The word “Kwun” is intangible i.e. it is invisible and untouchable, but it is noticeable by feelings. If one’s Kwun was still with him/her, he/she would normally feel happy. On the contrary, if one’s Kwun was not with them, one would feel differently.
Thai people believe that the rite of Bai Sri Su Kwun is a ritual activity that would encourage their mental strength. A strong mind would support them to, as they wished, succeed in their tasks.
